September 2009 - March 2010
There were no windows in our cabins. Just the sound of the ocean next to our ‘home away from home’, ‘The Matrix or “Sea Life” as most crew members would often call it.
From September 2009 until March 2010, I decided to embark on a journey and document what it’s like to live on a cruise ship. I applied to a position I only knew: Photographer.
I’ve never been on a cruise ship before.
My 1st day on the job, I had to fly from New York City to Dublin, Ireland. After landing, I would have to stay overnight, grab a ride to catch the ship before it departs to their next destination: Reykjavik, Iceland.
It was a mixture of environments that combined the freedom and limitations. Deck 4 was where we lived. For 6 months, I became part of a world where breaks were taken at the Crew Bar, wearing pirate costumes every week was normal, and eating dinner at midnight was acceptable.
